Sevenoaks District Council

Sevenoaks District Council has been classified by Central Government as a 'Excellent' local authority. It is constantly striving to improve its performance to offer its residents efficient customer focused services and value for money.

Sevenoaks District is located in west Kent bordering Greater London, Surrey and Sussex. It covers an area of 142 square miles and has a population of over 112,000.

Most of the area is rural in character and the entire District is within the Green Belt. It includes many picturesque villages and hamlets, beautiful countryside and many areas of outstanding natural beauty.

The area is rich in historical sites including Penshurst Place, Hever Castle, Winston Churchill's former home at Chartwell, Lullingstone Castle and Roman Villa, and Knole Park to name but a few.

Sevenoaks District has excellent communications. The M25, M20 and M26 motorways are easily accessible, as they cross the District, and Gatwick and Heathrow airports and the channel ports and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link are all within easy reach. The railway service to London is very good with regular services to London's Charing Cross Station, which takes on average 30 minutes.

There are a wide range of local leisure facilities, including sports centres in the three main towns of Edenbridge, Sevenoaks and Swanley operated by Sencio Community Leisure on behalf of the Council.

Theatre and concert-goers are well provided for, with plenty of venues in the area and easy access to London, and there are many scenic and spectacular walks.

It is one of the area's biggest employers with some 450 staff based at its Sevenoaks offices and in the nearby village of Sundridge who work throughout the District. The Council's staff benefits package include flexible annual leave and working arrangements, reduced rates at the District's local leisure facilities, free car parking, excellent training and development opportunities and a final salary contributory pension scheme.

The Council also has the prestigious Investor In People status. Sevenoaks District Council aims to make as many of its services as is possible available electronically to residents, those who do business with the Council and job applicants. Anyone interested in applying for a post with the Council can do so electronically via the on-line application form on the jobsgopublic website.
