Clerking Service Clerk

Octavo Partnership, based in Croydon, are an accredited Croydon Good Employer, with links to Croydon Council and the Croydon Headteachers Association. We supply support services, including Governance and Governor Training, to schools across Croydon, Bromley and many neighbouring boroughs.

Due to business expansion, Octavo Clerking Service are seeking a Clerking Service Clerk to support school governing boards, in maintained and academy schools and across Multi Academy Trusts.

As a clerk in our Service, you will provide sound governance advice and solid admin support including minute taking, agenda setting and record keeping. Our clerks liaise directly to organise meetings and set agendas therefore good written and verbal communication and time management skills are required, plus the ability to develop positive and pro-active relationships with the Board.

You will be supported by Octavo with expert governance advice, but as you will working for periods without direct supervision, it is desirable that you will either have some previous knowledge of school governance and the education system or are willing to learn and develop this. We provide a full Clerk induction and thereafter regular attendance at paid training will be expected, where there will also be opportunities to network with fellow clerks.

This role is home-based and requires travel to different schools in the local and neighbouring areas, therefore you will need your own reliable transport. You will also need to provide your own laptop, and confidence using ICT will be essential.

Flexibility in terms of working hours will be required as it is likely that the majority of meetings will take place in the late afternoon/early evening, although there are also meetings within the school day on occasion.

At present this role is paid on a casual, hours worked basis, with the opportunity to take on additional meetings ad-hoc. Whilst the working hours are variable, there will be the opportunity to agree a number of meetings during the year if attached as named clerk for a school.

Interview dates to be confirmed.
