Parks and Green Spaces Manager

Newham Council provides services to residents, business and visitors of this young and vibrant borough in East London. The council’s Environment & Sustainable Transport division provides most of the frontline services that all residents use, including waste collection, street cleansing, highways maintenance, housing and grounds maintenance.

Parks and Green Spaces Manager
£47,511 - £50,448 pa Permanent role.

To be responsible for the provision, delivery and management of a professional, innovative, effective and high quality Parks & Green Spaces service; developing partnerships, leading initiatives and seeking all available resources to contribute to and deliver the Council’s vision for the service. To act as the Council’s principal advisor on all matters relating to parks and green spaces management.

We are looking for a skilled and energetic individual to take on the leadership and development of an excellent Parks and Green Spaces service for the London Borough of Newham.
The main focus of the service is the management and development of the borough's 22 key parks and numerous green spaces.
This includes management responsibility for the insourced grounds maintenance service as well as a new arboricultural services contract, both from January 2020.
In addition the Parks and Green Spaces service leads the strategic development of parks and green spaces across the borough; linked to an ambitious regeneration agenda.

You will need excellent communication skills and the drive to deliver; quickly establishing a cohesive team and achieving real results for Newham’s communities.
The future of this team is based around its ability to deliver. Service developments will include developing innovative ways in which to deliver its services and enabling others to do so.
You will build on existing working relationships, both internally and externally, and will need tenacity, confidence and a flair for leadership to take the team forward to meet our expectations.
Experience of managing substantial and complex budgets and an ability to prepare and implement strategies and business plans are essential to this position.

You will also be educated to degree-level or equivalent in a relevant area, or equivalent by experience.
