Senior Officer, Transfer Groups and Appeals

Are you looking for a fresh challenge, working with a highly motivated and dedicated team in fast-paced office environment? If so, we would love to hear from you!

Senior Officer, Transfer Groups and Appeals (PO3): 1 post

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a self-directed and highly skilled, enthusiastic individual with outstanding knowledge of school admissions’ and appeals’ legislation and codes of practice. Extensive experience and knowledge of the Pan-London Register and Capita ONE pupil databases are essential.

You will join a team with a strong commitment to the delivery of outstanding customer care and child-centred services, as well as an exemplary ‘can-do’ attitude.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the Local Authority (LA) fulfils its statutory duties in relation to Primary and Secondary Transfer, by overseeing and managing all day to day operations of Islington’s coordinated Pan-London primary and secondary admissions schemes, including the processing and coordination of applications from Islington residents to both Islington and out of borough schools within the context of robust safeguarding and quality assurance procedures;
  •  Providing the technical expertise and knowledge to oversee and manage a comprehensive admissions appeals service, including the preparation of supporting documentation, ensuring appeal papers are compiled and presented in a consistent way;
  • Representing the Director of Schools at Admission Appeals, presenting the local authority’s case as appropriate;
  • Ensuring an outstanding customer-focused service through implementing, developing and managing agreed processes, coaching and mentoring staff, and prioritising tasks to meet statutory deadlines and service specification

You will be flexible and hardworking, committed to safeguarding children and have the initiative and skills to work well under pressure. The ability to manage your own, and the team’s, time and workload effectively are essential.
