Support Worker

Fixed term contract until end of March 2020

Sheffield

Closing date: 27 October 2019 at 11.30pm

We are looking for a Support Worker with a good knowledge of (or interest in) homelessness and housing legislation and welfare benefits, to provide support to clients with complex needs, enabling them to sustain their accommodation and thrive in the community.

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change — with individuals, in communities, across society – and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

We operate a thriving client-focused Hub of services in Sheffield, where people can access a range of advice and support provision, all from a city centre location. Our aim is to empower clients to make decisions and take action for themselves by providing legal advice, referrals and signposting, advocacy and practical support. There are currently around 60 individuals working in the Hub.

About the role

As a Support Worker you’ll undertake comprehensive housing needs and risk assessments so that the client’s housing-related support needs are fully identified. Providing flexible support, including support in people’s homes and a variety of settings, you’ll develop an outcome focused support plan with the client as well as developing, maintaining and coordinating effective working relationships.

About you

We’re looking for someone with proven experience of working with vulnerable people or those with multiple and complex needs. With demonstrable knowledge of homelessness, housing welfare benefits and safeguarding frameoworks, you will be able to use Microsoft Office applications. You’ll also have a proactive and resilient approach, excellent relationship building skills and a flair for adapting your influencing style. A full driving licence, access to a vehicle and relevant insurance is essential

Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
