Principal Auditor

Islington is a diverse borough and we strive to service our residents. As part of our commitment to providing high quality assurance services, we are recruiting a Principal Auditor to assist in the overall delivery of the Council’s Internal Audit Plan.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an extremely motivated and proficient Principal Auditor to join a high performing and respected team. The Internal Audit team is highly visible and well respected, and actively contributes to, and supports the strategic direction of the Council through the delivery of an excellent customer-focused service.

This is a unique role that provides exciting opportunities to work alongside colleagues across our Shared Internal Audit Service with LB Camden. There are also opportunities to broaden your profile and knowledge base as we are part of a Cross Council Assurance Service consisting of six boroughs that co-source Internal Audit functions with a co-sourced provider. The Cross Council Assurance Services provides opportunities for auditors to network and share intelligence.

As a Principal Auditor, you will be expected to contribute to the Council’s governance and assurance framework by delivering the risk based audit plan and drafting and presenting clear, concise reports to Senior Management.

About you

You will be IIA qualified/part-qualified or hold an AAT qualification or similar, and you will have a sound understanding of risk based internal audit techniques and methodologies. The ideal candidate will currently be working in a private or public Internal Audit role and will have experience of delivering risk based audit reviews. We are looking for a self-motivated and effective team player with excellent verbal and written skills and the credibility and confidence to liaise with officers across the Council; including senior management.

Your technical skills will be supported by knowledge and experience of risk based audit techniques and you will have a proven track record of excellent customer focus. You will be able to work on your own initiative and have the ability to juggle conflicting priorities and support requests for advice at short notice.

In return we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop within a high profile organisation. We also offer flexibility and agile working as well as an excellent annual leave package and a competitive salary. It is a great place to advance your skills and make a difference to the community. We recognise and reward high performance and salary progression is based on individual performance.

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Closing date for applications: 1 Decmber2019

Interviews will be held: 11 & 12 December 2019
