The Lead Learning Assistant role is a fantastic opportunity for someone with passion and commitment for improving outcomes for pupils. You will be joining a committed team of professionals at New River College. We are looking for a skilled and experienced educational practitioner who is looking for a challenge and an opportunity to enhance their career. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of learning assistants with the aim of supporting and implementing the inclusion agenda and SEN Code of Practice. The Lead Learning Assistant role complements the work of teachers through planning, preparation, and delivery of learning activities as well as the assessment, recording, and reporting of pupils’ achievement and progress. You must be educated to level 2 standard Maths and English. As well as curriculum related responsibilities, the role also has a strong pastoral element, as the successful applicant will be the designated safeguarding lead, supporting the Deputy Headteacher in all safeguarding related concerns.
NRC Medical staff work with KS1-4 pupils, who are not able to attend school for medical reasons. We teach at the Children’s Ward at the Whittington Hospital, in the homes of pupils too unwell to attend school and in a classroom at the Elthorne Road site of New River College.
We offer a core curriculum to all pupils which includes English, Maths, Science, Humanities and a selection of foundation subjects.
New River College comprises of three pupil referral units in Islington (primary, secondary and medical), for pupils with social, emotional and mental health challenges (SEMH). We educate children and young people aged five to sixteen years’ old who have been permanently excluded or participate in our preventative programmes to address their behaviour, and children and young people with complex SEMH or medical needs.
