About the role

We have an exciting new opportunity to join our StreetScene service and play a critical role in ensuring our grounds maintenance and street/public buildings cleansing operations are delivered consistently across our patch and in line with safe systems of work.  Working out of our depots at Manstone, Sidmouth and Camperdown, Exmouth, this will involve travelling throughout the district visiting our operational teams on site to undertake inspection/compliance checks; and working closely with line managers to develop, advise on, communicate and embed common and safe operational practice. 

You will also be responsible for a small team of officers whose roles range from advising on beach safety, planning the landscaping of our parks and open spaces, and administering our income collection and resourcing processes; as well as deputising for the Operations Manager in their absence. 

About you

Your background will be in line managing staff in a similar working environment, including practical experience of implementing and enforcing safe systems of work and consistent working practices, and ideally with a NVQ level 4 management qualification.  You will also have demonstrable experience or a NVQ 3 qualification in a vocational field such as cleansing, grounds maintenance or horticulture.  

Able to build rapport quickly, you will have the gravitas and knowledge to lead and influence others in the work and the passion, drive and organisational skills to juggle a demanding role.  You will also be competent in the use of Microsoft Office and information and communication technology to make best use of time and resources.  Some weekend working and out of hours emergency response handling are also a feature of this role.
