Youth Offending Team Social Worker

Achieving for Children is an award-winning social enterprise created by Kingston and Richmond Councils in 2014, expanding into the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead in 2017. We are responsible for delivering the entirety of children’s services in all three local authorities.

Achieving for Children has been up and running for four years, and in that time we have established a reputation as one of the leading children’s services providers in the country. We are one of the Department for Education’s eight ‘Partners in Practice’, tasked with leading improvement across the sector.

We are looking for a Youth Offending Team Social Worker to join our team in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. We work with young people who are at risk of engaging in offending behaviour or who have committed an offence, and support them to help make positive changes in their lives so they do not re-offend or cause further harm to the community. This includes promoting restorative justice and working with victims. In addition, we help to support young people with any safeguarding needs they may have, in order to promote their personal safety and wellbeing.

As a Youth Offending Team Social Worker for Achieving for Children, you will be responsible for:

  • To provide social work services within the YOT, and understand and comply with the implementation of current Child Protection procedures and guidance.
  • Utilise reflective practice, research findings, outcomes from SCR and CSPPI processes, complaints, case law and statutory guidance to inform your social work and Youth Justice Practice.
  • To undertake the role of Practice Educator/work based supervisor for social work students and act as a mentor to new staff regarding Social Work practice.
  • Network with YOT and Social Care colleagues and professionals from other organisations involved in the delivery of youth justice services to share information, knowledge and feedback, especially acting as the link between YOT and Social Care within Achieving for Children.
  • To manage remand and bail support packages, and provide additional support to young people remanded into Local Authority accommodation in line with National Standards, and Effective Practice Principles, and to participate in the Court Duty Rota system which includes, attending and speaking in Court, receiving referrals and responding to any situations that may arise.

 

 

To be a Youth Offending Team Worker for AfC, you will be passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people as well as demonstrating the following points:

  • Working knowledge of Criminal Justice System in relation to young people and Youth Justice Practice.
  • Experience of working in social, educational, health, youth, community or youth justice setting.
  • Able to build clear, direct and open relationships based on trust and mutual respect, with a range of individuals, groups and organisations.
  • Able to maintain a child-focused approach at all times.
  • Experience of working collaboratively in a multi-agency context to achieve the best outcomes for young people.
