Assistant Solicitor

An opportunity has arisen to provide legal support and advice to Wealden and Rother District Councils on their corporate and commercial arrangements and data protection matters.  This will involve supporting the Legal Services Manager and Principal Solicitor for Contracts, Procurement & Property in providing legal advice on corporate and commercial arrangements including drafting, reviewing and advising on the Council’s contractual arrangements and advising on procurement activity. You will also be required to advise on data protection law and practice and information governance issues and assist with other work as required.

Working in Wealden District Council’s busy legal team you will need experience of contracts and commercial law within a legal practice or in-house legal team and demonstrable experience of advising on public procurement issues. You will also need relevant experience of advising on information governance and data protection matters.

You will have a Law degree or equivalent and be a Practising Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and, in addition to excellent communication skills, you will demonstrate high standards of client care and the ability to work well in a team.  Knowledge of local government and administrative law will be an advantage.
