Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic professional to join their team as aIndependent Living Officer. If you’re passionate about making a difference to the lives of vulnerable people in the community, this is the role for you.

As an Independent Living Officer, also known as a Scheme/Sheltered Housing Manager, you’ll be an integral part of the Independent Living Service. You’ll join a team who take a huge amount of pride in the support they provide in helping residents to remain living independently, and it will be up to you to maintain this. We’ll look to you to lead a customer-focussed, proactive and high-quality Independent Living Service to the sheltered scheme residents of Welwyn Hatfield.

Your key responsibilities will include delivering effective management of scheme buildings and facilities, as well as providing information, assisting with referrals and signposting to other agencies. You’ll work with our partners to make sure the schemes are compliant with any legislative, health and safety requirements. Above all, you’ll manage our services in a way that ensures the independence, dignity, security, privacy, confidentiality, rights and wellbeing of our tenants in sheltered housing.

We’re looking for someone who truly cares about the work they do. You’ll be compassionate, and empathetic, with a great eye for details and a flair for managing complex situations. You’ll be a confident communicator, able to build rapport with colleagues, tenants and agencies. This is a physically active role where no two days are the same. It’s therefore vital for you to be flexible and reactive, with the ability to work independently, with the ability to keep calm in emergency situations.

You will join a forward-thinking council that puts their customers first. We know that in order to provide the best for our residents and visitors, we need to do the same for our staff.  We have set out to make our workplaces vibrant and happy places to be, places where our staff feel safe, content and valued. From a generous annual leave entitlement, to flexible working and opportunities to buy and sell leave, our benefits package provides a great work life balance.

Joining Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, you’ll discover a workplace where everyone is respected, supported and empowered. If you share these values, we’d love to hear from you.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken and written English is essential.  A current driving license and access to a vehicle is also necessary. DBS clearance is also a requirement of the role.
