Social Worker (Referral & Assessment)

Starting salary:             JM1: £31,371 - £33,799 per annum

Location:                       Based in the Town Hall, Weston-super-Mare

Hours:                             37 hours per week

Are you a qualified social worker who is looking for the challenge of fast paced, short term work, helping children, young people and their families during periods of significant crisis in their lives?  We are looking for social workers to join our small team of four social workers, two referral coordinators, an assistant team manager and a team manager. 


Here in North Somerset we have structured our Children’s safeguarding Teams into one Referral and Assessment Team based in Weston-super-Mare that covers the whole Local Authority and then seven Community Family Teams based out in different areas.


The Referral and Assessment Team responds to all urgent referrals that require immediate safeguarding. This requires workers to be flexible and able to respond to quickly changing circumstances as well as able to develop good working partnerships with our colleagues in Health, Education and the Police. As an Authority we are committed to using a Signs of Safety approach to establish safety plans that are meaningful and effective.  You will need to be competent in completing S47 enquiries, assessments of need and risk, reports to ICPC and making emergency Court applications. We will support you with clear management direction, regular supervision, high quality training, access to Research in Practice, Lunch and Learns delivered by our Principle Social Worker and access to practice leaders in Signs of Safety.  We also support mobile flexible working with the provision of I pads.
