Newark and Sherwood District Council is looking to promote an opportunity for a career in planning. The post has been designed to target a range of potential candidates, from those with A Levels, to undergraduates, those currently pursuing a post graduate route into the profession, a newly qualified planner or an experienced professional. The salary has been designed to reflect the level of any appointable candidate.

Two posts have become available following an internal restructure and internal promotion – one in Development Management and the other in Planning Enforcement.  The posts will offer an opportunity to work in the Planning Department and deal with for Development Management a full range of applications, pre-application enquiries and appeals or for Planning Enforcement investigating (alleged) breaches of planning control, negotiating, analysing information, issuing enforcement notices and appeals within a District with a diverse range of planning issues. IF YOU HAVE A PREFERENCE FOR EITHER OF THE POSTS PLESE INDICATE ON YOUR APPLICATION FORM.

The successful candidate will have initiative, be highly motivated, enthusiastic, organised and objective. The post offers an ability to learn from a 20 strong professional team (this includes Development Management, Enforcement, and Conservation) and from Planning Policy colleagues in order to gain the necessary experience and knowledge for a career in planning.

Geographically the District is the largest in Nottinghamshire, incorporating the centres of Newark, Southwell and Ollerton, together with large rural areas. We deal with schemes ranging from large urban extensions (3000 houses and associated infrastructure), employment and retail developments, flood risk issues, schemes for gypsy and traveller provision and protecting the area’s important heritage. Newark & Sherwood District Council is a dynamic, progressive planning authority, with the first Core Strategy and Allocations DPDs in Nottinghamshire, the first Community Infrastructure Levy in England, and a programme to deliver growth in the context of a fantastic historic and natural environment.

NSDC are committed to building and maintaining a flexible, resilient and responsive workforce, who can support the needs of our residents. We want to attract as wide a pool of talented candidates as possible and, where we can, will offer you flexibility in the way you work. We will consider suggestions for how the responsibilities of the role can be met through working different hours, days or in different locations. We may not be able to offer flexibility in every role, but where we can, we are happy to discuss options with you at interview.

For an informal discussion about this post please contact Lisa Hughes, Richard Marshall or Laura Gardner via 01636 650000.

Interviews will be held week commencing 20th April 2020.
