Private Sector Housing Assistant

Private Sector Housing Assistant

Salary:  £ 22,400 - £23,876 per annum

Full time permanent position

We are seeking a positive and self-motivated person to provide administrative and general support to the Residential Team Manager within the Council’s Commercial and Regulatory Service.

You will deal with public enquiries and process applications for Disabled Facilities Grants and discretionary Housing Repayable Assistance.  You will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep and maintenance of all relevant records and the timely payment of invoices to contractors.

Working closely with the Grants Team and liaising with a wide range of outside agencies involved in the application process, you should have experience in general administration and have excellent interpersonal skills.  You will be required to work collaboratively with our internal partners, must be well organised and capable of prioritising your own workload.

As well as being proficient using Microsoft IT products, you will be required to use other private sector housing IT database systems.

The role involves the financial means-testing of applicants which requires a high level of numeracy and accuracy.  You will also be required to collect evidence of applicants’ income and savings and so you will need to be sensitive to the needs of older, disabled and vulnerable people and must be able to deal with confidential information appropriately. These requirements mean that the post might be suitable for someone with experience in finance or administration of Housing Benefits.

The duties of the post involve communicating with a wide range of service users and other agencies and you will need to demonstrate that you are able to communicate in a clear and effective manner, both verbally and in writing.

You will occasionally need to visit people in their homes and, in recognition of this; the post attracts a casual car user’s allowance. We also offer a competitive salary, flexible and agile working and generous holiday entitlement.

For an informal discussion please contact Sandra Wilson: 01992 562186.  To make an application, please visit the Epping Forest Council website
