About the role

We are seeking to appoint a pod manager who can promote our relationship-based model of practice and demonstrate relationship-based management and leadership.  .

Brighton and Hove Children’s Services are improving outcomes for the children and families we support by embedding a model of relationship-based social work. We introduced our model of practice in October 2015 and since that time we have seen a significant reduction in the number of children in our care, the number of child protection plans we have and the number of children in need. Social workers tell us in our social work health check that they feel safe and supported and trusted to make decisions.  The experience of the families we are supporting have also improved and, for example, the number of complaints made by families have significantly reduced.

Social workers feel contained by their supervisors and have space for reflection – as evidenced by the results of the Your Voice: social work survey and the quality of their practice.  In 2019, 94% of practitioners said they receive the right support and guidance from their manager.

As well as implementing a workforce development plan to support this re-design we have introduced group supervision and Reflective Practice Groups to ensure that social workers receive robust and reflective support. A key part of delivering these changes have been our pod managers and we now wish to recruit a temporary pod manager who can work across our Front Door for Families and the social work pods, providing leadership and support to cover for planned absences of the permanent managers.

About You:

You must hold a Professional Social Work Qualification (e.g. CQSW, Dip(SW), MSW) and be registered as a social worker with Social Work England. In addition, you will need to have proven management skills and a minimum of 2 years' experience managing social workers and the ability to respond to situations which require immediate action. You will need to have excellent skills for engaging partners and supporting the development of practitioners.

We highly recommend you read the ‘Maximise your Chances’ below before you apply for this job. It is important you are able to show how you meet the Person Specification when applying. Not following this guidance is likely to reduce your chances of success.
