Private Sector Housing Officer

We are currently looking for a Private Sector Housing Officer to join our busy and friendly Private Sector Housing Team. The team works to improve housing conditions across the district, support vulnerable, elderly and disabled people to allow them to remain independent in their own homes and bring empty homes back into use.

The postholder will carry out inspections and investigations of private sector housing, particularly in relation to responding to Housing complaints and the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO licensing), Empty Homes, Statutory Nuisances, Filthy and Verminous Premises,
Grants and loans and Fire Safety.

Essential requirements – the applicant must have at least 2 years experience working in a building or housing surveying field or HNC/HND or equivalent in Building construction/Environmental Health related subject.

Desirable requirements -  Relevant attendance to a recognised training course for the Housing, Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and obtained Certification to show competency to assess under this system – for example the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s HHSRS Practitioners Course (2 day with assessment and certificate) and experience of using the HHSRS and enforcing remedial works.
