Private Sector Housing Grants Officer

Job Ref: 2000BUW

Grade F   Salary: £29,700 - £31,626 (full-time)

We are seeking a positive and self-motivated person to assist in the delivery of the Council’s Private Sector Housing Grants Service within the Commercial and Regulatory Service.

Working closely with the Residential Team Manager you will liaise with a wide range of outside agencies involved in the application process; you should therefore have experience in general administration and have good interpersonal skills.

You may be required to participate in feasibility meetings and should have the ability to assist in problem-solving. You will need to be sensitive to the needs of older, disabled and vulnerable people and must be able to deal with confidential information appropriately.

You will inspect private sector properties and take measurements, sketches and notes and prepare basic hand-drawn scaled drawings for use by the Surveyor.

You will liaise with the Residential Team Manager and other health professionals to agree suitable adaptations, in accordance with Occupational Therapists’ recommendations to enable our residents to remain living independently and safely at home.

You must have a sound knowledge of Disabled Facilities Grants and be proficient in completing prescribed application forms and undertaking financial means-testing including obtaining and interrogating financial information to ensure the validity of applications. A basic knowledge of HHSRS would be desirable but is not essential as training will be provided.

You may be required to submit Building Regulations Applications and Planning Applications and will work collaboratively with our internal partners. You will check digital plans and specifications, issue tenders to contractors, check tenders for financial accuracy and process applications through to formal approval.

You will be required to carry out work-in-progress visits, final inspections and will need to deal with snagging items through to completion and payment of invoices.

As well as being proficient using Microsoft IT products, you will be required to use other private sector housing IT database systems and spreadsheets.

In recognition of the need to visit people in their own homes and/or attend other meetings this post attracts a casual car user’s allowance.
