Role Purpose

Weare seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Planning Manager to join TowerHamlets’ Development Management Service. This role will lead the Planning Compliance Team, taking a proactive role ininvestigating and resolving breaches of planning control, improving the qualityof the environment and delivering positive outcomes for our communities.

Tower Hamlets lies at theheart of London’s east end and includes key growth areas at Canary Wharf, the Isle of Dogs,City Fringe and the Lower Lea Valley. Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will bepart of the Development Management leadership team will be and managing a team of 7officers with responsibility for delivering a high quality planning complianceand enforcement service. The team has been expandedrecently and has been delivering a number of area based improvement projectsand coordinating a multi-team approach to managing construction impacts in addition to investigating breaches of planning control. The new Planning Compliance Policy which setsout our commitments to service users and we are looking at how we can utilisetechnology more creatively to manage and track case enquiries.

ThePlanning Compliance Manager will be responsible for building and maintainingpositive working relationships across internal services and with external partners,along with engaging with Tower Hamlets Mayor and electedmembers.



Requirements

Candidates will need to have a qualification inTown Planning (or equivalent), plus sound planning compliance or enforcementexperience. You should be able to demonstrate effectiveleadership and management skills and the techniques to support, motivate andget the best performance from your team. Strong communication skills, negotiation skills and ability to drivecreative solutions to complex issues will be important.
