Level 2 Occupational Therapist Children with Disabilities Team (SEND)

Are you an enthusiastic, motivated and occupation-focused occupational therapist seeking to develop your career working with children and young people?

If you are, we have an excellent opportunity for you within the Children with Disabilities Team (SEND).

For us, great work starts with great people. That’s why we want to make the most of your skills. Our team of occupational therapists will offer you support due to their extensive wide-ranging experience. Here, you’ll discover unique development opportunities including our in-house training on adaptations. For occupational therapists joining our team we also offer post-graduate training opportunities, attendance at equipment exhibitions and conferences, including the bi-annual 'PromOTing Lincs' conference for all Social Care occupational therapists within Lincolnshire.

We are looking for a Level 2 occupational therapist (equivalent to NHS Band 6) to join our occupational therapy team, with your salary reflecting your level of experience.

As an occupational therapist working for us you will form part of a small team supporting children and young people in their home environment, working to maximise independence through advice, information, equipment and adaptations.  Our caseload is varied, including children with complex medical conditions or disabilities, as well as those with challenging behaviours, providing a wide range of practical experience to add to your CPD portfolio.

Working in our team enables you to make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and their families across the county of Lincolnshire.

Children with Disabilities Team (Occupational Therapy Team)

We are based in Sleaford, a central location for the whole county, working from new, purpose built offices where we are co-located with colleagues from a range of services including social work, SEND and Health Visitors.

Our team are forward-thinking, passionate about the work we do and are committed to supporting OT students through placements and as educators; actively building links with the School of Occupational Therapy at the University of Lincoln as well as those in Sheffield and Derby.  We have team members who have contributed to publications and have involvement in promoting occupational therapy at both county and national level; working to promote good practice in the field of occupational therapy. These activities reflect our drive to provide a high-quality, evidence-based service which follows current good practice.

About the Role:

As an occupational therapist you will form part of a committed team working with children and their families supporting those with complex needs, working across the county within the child’s home environment.

Using the PEOP model of occupational therapy you will provide support through information and advice; assess for and prescribe a wide range of specialist equipment supporting 24 hour postural care, moving and handling, promotion of independence and facilitating care. Additionally you will assess for and recommend minor and major adaptations, working collaboratively with colleagues within the 7 City, District and Borough Councils in Lincolnshire.

About You:

You will be a positive, enthusiastic occupational therapy practitioner seeking to develop your skills and knowledge in this area of occupational therapy. Working to support children and their families you will elicit the voice of the child promoting their participation in decision-making.

Occupational therapists joining our team will actively seek career development opportunities supported by our commitment to effective supervision and appraisal structure.

To apply, you will have:

  • An Occupational Therapy qualification (MSc OT /BSc OT / Dip OT) with current HCPC registration.
  • Current knowledge of paediatric occupational therapy and an understanding of how disability impacts on children's meaningful occupations (this reflecting your level of post qualification experience).
  • The ability to build good working relationships with children, young people, families and colleagues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate the outcomes of assessments and highlight the voices of the children we work with.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to drive across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner.

In turn we will offer you an in-depth, structured induction, regular high-quality supervision, on-going support and career development through annual appraisals and internal and external CPD opportunities. (If you would like to know more about our training offer, please contact Ruth Parker on the number below).

Interviews for this post will be held virtually on July 1st 2020.
