Parking Manager

An exciting opportunity for an innovative, commercially aware, experienced Parking Manager has just become available at Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.

The parking team is vital to the wellbeing of the Borough.  We’re a hard-working, committed team who are passionate about the services we provide to all of our stakeholders – customers, residents, businesses and local interest groups.

The Borough is 128 square miles in area and has a population of around 120,000 people, with approximately half living in Royal Tunbridge Wells itself. The town is busy and has an ambitious range of projects in progress, many of which have implications for parking and traffic management. A number of other smaller towns are spread throughout the Borough which is predominantly rural in nature, two of which have parking facilities managed by the Council.

You will be creating the new parking strategy for the Borough to partner the Local Plan, with particular focus on the Council’s climate emergency priorities.  You will manage all of the day-to-day challenges relating to both on and off-street parking, traffic management and enforcement.

To be successful in this role you will need to be qualified to degree level and have at least 5 years’ experience in leading an operational parking enforcement service. You will manage over £7m of income for the Council, necessitating excellent commercial skills, with sound analytical and decision-making experience. You will lead a team of 35, so must be experienced and delight in motivating and developing people to help them reach their full potential.

Your role will involve a substantial amount of liaison with local residents and businesses, in particular those related to the retail sector, which form an important part of the local economy.  You will also need to be aware of all current related legislation and be proficient in the writing of reports for committee and board meetings, at which you will be expected to attend and present items. You will therefore need excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information in simple terms.

Additional benefits for this post include 32 days annual leave (increasing to 35 days after 5 years continuous Local Government service), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme as well as invaluable training opportunities for continuing professional development.
