Energy Support Officer

Energy Support Officer is an exciting new post within the Repairs and Maintenance Service in our Council Housing team. The role will provide a tenant focused energy advice service and contribute towards the Council’s approach to the Climate Change Emergency.

The post holder will work with our tenants and offer them practical, technical and financial advice about how to control appliances, manage their energy consumption and signpost tenants to a range of financial and advisory services.

The work will be varied and you will require excellent organisation skills and have confidence working with people. You will visit all new tenants and hold ‘energy surgeries’. You will provide a referral service and offer advice to tenants experiencing fuel poverty. You will help tenants make informed choices about tariffs, reducing utility bills and access to financial benefits and support.

The role will also inform and support green energy initiatives and work with our partners and colleagues to promote energy efficiency.

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to travel throughout the district and visit tenants in their homes a range or other estate locations. Transport will be provided through pooled vehicles.

The hours of work for this position are 37 per week. The Council currently operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. This post is permanent. This post is based at White Lund Depot although it is anticipated to that most of your time will be spent time with tenants in their homes.

The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced clearance with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Earlier this year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.
