Job Duties:

Modern Firefighters, no matter who they are or what background they come from, make a valuable contribution to the safety and wellbeing of the community. The role is not only about fighting fires; it's also about educating people on a wide number of safety issues, working with a range of partner organisations, conducting Home Safety visits and responding to a wide variety of emergency incidents.

The primary entry criteria being that ALL applicants MUST:
• Reside in Hertfordshire or in a directly adjoining postcode area
• Are 18 years old or over at the time you start the training course
• Hold a full & valid manual driving licence, enabling ‘unsupervised’ driving in the United Kingdom
• The right to work in the UK
• No unspent convictions (As defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974)
• GCSE Grade A* to Grade C, or Level 9-4 qualifications in English and Mathematics (or a recognised equivalent i.e. Basic/Key Skills Level 2). You will be asked to upload certificates when applying.

Appointments will always be made on the merit of the application and performance in the selection process – however, we are particularly encouraging applications from females and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates who are currently under-represented within HFRS.

We will contact you within couple of weeks of your application to confirm whether you will be invited to an Engagement session, which will be running in October and November 2020. Sessions will give a brief overview of the recruitment process, fitness requirements and expectations of the role.
