Democratic Services Officer

We are looking for a positive and self-motivated person to join our small Democratic Services team. You should have good organisational skills and be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken language and have experience in meetings administration in a local authority or similar environment.

In this varied role you will support the decision making processes of the council including preparing agendas, attending meetings, ensuring decisions are taken in accordance with the council’s constitution and relevant legislation and providing support and advice to councillors. You will support the council’s formal complaints procedure, liaising with service areas, members of the public and the Local Government & Social Care Ombudsman. You will also provide support for the Mayor’s Secretary in organising and attending civic events.

Attendance at evening meetings and occasional weekend civic events will be required, for which time off in lieu is provided.

The successful candidate will be supported with training and membership of the Association of Democratic Services Officers.
