Health and Safety Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a health and safety assistant to support, advise and deliver excellent customer service across the Children, Families, Lifelong Learning and Culture Directorate.

If you are searching for a fresh challenge in a supportive, friendly team, then this could be the opportunity for you. We are looking for a keen, dynamic and passionate individual to work with us, to deliver an efficient, effective and flexible advisory service.

The role is based within the Strategic Risk Management (SRM) team, which supports the work of children’s services, schools, libraries, adult education and cultural services. We are entering an exciting time, streamlining and expanding our health and safety systems across our organisation.

Reporting to the senior health and safety advisor, you will assist in managing and monitoring health and safety across the directorate, contributing to the development and organisation of policy and guidance documents, and managing the team’s health and safety helpdesk.

Working with and supporting the SRM team, schools and other directorate teams, you will provide practical advice and outcome focused solutions, meeting and exceeding customer expectations. The successful candidate should already be working in a health and safety role, with an aptitude and willingness to progress within the profession.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • You hold an Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safely qualification
  • Continuing professional development with a willingness to work towards Technical membership of IOSH.
  • Strong IT skills using a range of different applications including MS Office and database management system, with a proven ability to learn new applications.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to meet and exceed customer expectations
  • Professional integrity, respect, confidentiality and understanding political sensitivities
  • An ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, influencing internal and external partners.
  • Excellent organisational skills, planning and prioritising your own workload to ensure operational efficiency.

The Strategic Risk Management team are currently based at County Hall in Kingston Upon Thames, but the Council are moving to agile working, so the ability to work from home and other buildings throughout the county is essential.
