Social Inclusion Programme Manager

“Making Stevenage Better for Everyone”

Stevenage - A New Era

Contract: 12 months fixed term contract

Benefits: reduced gym and swim membership, local government pension scheme, up to 30 days annual leave (subject to previous accumulated service).

The scale of ambition across Britain’s First New Town is unprecedented. A major £billion town centre regeneration programme is currently underway along with a £45millon refurbishment of council homes. At the same time there is significant investment across the town’s neighbourhoods to make lives better. All of this is being driven by a council with a co-operative commitment to working with its communities and driving a modern and agile approach to its work.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound effect on Stevenage, as it has across towns and cities across the UK. As the town embarks on its recovery plan it does so attempting to ensure that no-one is left behind. The council has recently agreed an Inclusive Economy Charter and has also announced an Equalities Commission. The aim of both of these is to tackle issues of social exclusion and to ensure opportunities are created for everyone across the town. The local voluntary sector   has also come together to work to secure resources to tackle the challenges ahead.

The next 12 months will be critical to the town’s recovery.

About the role

We are looking for a dynamic programme manager to instigate and lead a range of programmes to drive social inclusion across the Stevenage. As a Co-operative Council we are looking for an individual who lives and breathes the values of co-operation and can work effectively with different partners and stakeholders.

You will work at pace with colleagues across different services and establish relationships with other agencies. You will work effectively with elected members and members of the town’s communities. You will be able to develop solutions and project proposals and be able to develop successful funding bids. The role will require you to build relationships with neighbouring districts.  This is an exciting time for Stevenage and you will be inspired by the ambition, the pace and the commitment of our staff and councillors.

About you

You will have:

  • A track record in working with a range of stakeholders on issues of social inclusion.
  • Excellent programme management skills.
  • Knowledge of current social and public policy agendas.
  • Experience of developing high value funding bids and investment propositions.

And, above all:

  • A passion, drive and energy to make a difference!

Applications must be returned by midday on 23:00 Friday 27 November 2020
