Consultant Social worker
Location: Hertford County Hall based, areas covered Broxbourne and Hoddesdon and Bishop Stortford and Rural
Salary: Up to £48,683pa depending on experience (including up to £5k market forces & £1k welcome payment)
Hours : 37 per week

Hertfordshire County Council is looking for committed and innovative Consultant Social Workers who have strong leadership skills to join our Family Safeguarding teams covering Broxbourne and Hoddesdon area and Bishop Stortford and Rural. This is an exciting opportunity to shape children’s social work by working closely with management while still remaining hands on.
This role will include holding a small caseload of complex work (including care proceedings) while supporting the team managerYou will be a role model for good social work practice and use your experience to develop less experienced staff. You will have passion for achieving better outcomes for vulnerable children and their families and this will be demonstrated through applying theory and research to frontline practice.
Your enthusiasm for continued professional development will be put to the test as you make the transition into your first management role. This will include conducting supervision of Children Practitioners and supporting other members of the team and providing management cover in the Team Manager’s absence. Our Family Safeguarding Teams are multi-agency teams that work with Child Protection and Child in Need cases and conduct the majority of our care proceedings. These are multi-disciplinary teams consisting of professionals in children’s and adult social work: social workers, Children Practitioners, domestic abuse officers (working with perpetrators) and practitioners (working with victims), substance misuse and mental health workers who will work together to tackle the root causes of risk in families.
These teams have the benefit of police support two days per week to assist with aggressive or evasive families and police colleagues will do out of hours visits during evenings and weekends to families on this programme to check on their welfare. Our clinical psychology service will support PLO with specialist assessments.
You will have comprehensive knowledge of the challenges associated with working with children and their families. You should already have sufficient experience of staff supervision and management and be at the height of your social work career. Applicants for the role will need a professional Social Work qualification and be Social Work England registered.

AS PART OF THIS ROLE YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO TRAVEL TO VISIT SERVICE USERS OUT IN THE COMMUNITY, EITHER IN THEIR HOMES OR AT OTHER VENUES IN ORDER TO UNDERTAKE ASSESSMENTS. YOU WILL ALSO BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND MEETINGS AT OTHER SITES OTHER THAN YOUR OWN WORK BASE. IN LIGHT OF THIS, REGULAR ACCESS TO A CAR IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ROLE.
DURING THE LOCKDOWN PERIOD, OUR STAFF ARE WORKING FROM HOME AND TRAVEL TO VISITS AS NEEDED FOLLOWING GOVERNMENT SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDANCE. FACE-TO-FACE VISITS ARE ALTERNATED WITH VIRTUAL VISITS VIA WHATSAPP. MEETINGS ARE FACILITATED VIA MS TEAMS/ BT TELECONFERENCES.
