Housing Options Officer

18.5 hours per week, anticipated working days are Wednesday afternoon, Thursdays and Fridays, 12 month fixed term contract.

This is an exciting time to join the Housing Options service. The Homelessness Reduction Act has given an opportunity for the service to build on the excellent results already seen around Homelessness prevention.
We are looking for a knowledgeable and dedicated officer to join our team who can draw on proven experience supporting customers in a busy front line service conducting interviews in stressful situations.

A skilled negotiator who is persuasive in challenging situations, you will have a working knowledge of housing/homelessness legislation, welfare benefit reforms, rent arrears procedures, private sector housing issues and be able to make decisions applying and interpreting complex legislation as well as local policy.

You will have the ability to handle a large and complex workload offering professional advice on a range of housing options to potentially homeless customers, working with them to resolve their housing situation and preventing homelessness whenever possible by using the right tools and advice for each case, across a wide spectrum of tenures.

The role includes carrying out interviews, home visits, and liaison with other agencies, carrying out negotiations, agreeing and monitoring personal housing plans, interpreting complex information in order to issue a written decision letter, in addition to arranging temporary or permanent accommodation for customers facing homelessness.

Travel around the borough for the role is required and you must be able to participate in the out of hour’s service.
