If you can answer yes to these questions you could become a vital part of our Commercial Services and Contracts Division which focusses on managing and monitoring key frontline contracts. This Division oversees Waste, Landscaping, Leisure and Parking Services.

Mid Sussex have an exciting opportunity available to combine arboriculture, countryside management and ecology skills and knowledge across a significant and varied countryside estate. Reporting to the Landscapes and Leisure Team Leader, the role is responsible for managing the Council’s tree stock, writing management plans for the Council’s countryside estate, working with volunteers and other interest groups as required in this attractive part of West Sussex. It also manages a small team of Countryside Rangers.

Tree and Countryside Officer (18 months fixed term) Salary from £33,782 to £36,922 pa subject to experience + Car allowance up to £1,239 pa

About you

The successful candidate will have a level 4 or above qualification in arboriculture and a developed understanding of countryside management, with experience of managing sites for biodiversity and recreation. You’ll need to be highly organised and able to work independently and as part of a small but active team. Staff management experience is also essential; as is a proven ability to engage positively with volunteers and other interest groups. You’ll also be a key point of contact for our contractors and customers so you’ll need excellent communication and negotiation skills.
