The role:

The council has launched an ambitious and bold Corporate Plan intended to better the lives of local residents and deliver a Gravesham to be proud of. The Principal Accountant (Special Projects will play an integral part in the delivery of the plan by supporting the council in its ambitions to become more entrepreneurial in its activity and drive economic regeneration in the local area, whilst maintaining the strong financial governance arrangements of the council, and ensuring continuous improvement in the delivery of services.

Main responsibilities of the position include:

  • To work with the Director (Corporate Services) and Assistant Director Corporate Services to deliver key strategic projects as part of the Council’s activity to drive financial innovation and commercial activity as a means of generating income and making a social impact.
  • To play a key role in supporting the council’s trading company activity.
  • To advise the Council in progressing its Regeneration and Asset Management ambitions, including the Property Acquisition and Building Programme. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to fulfil this role with experience of managing change at a strategic level in a large, multi-functional organisation.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and organisation skills and be able to demonstrate strong highly-developed advocacy, influencing and negotiating skills.

Applicants must possess a professional accountancy qualification from a Chartered Accountancy Institute.
