Job introduction

As a Seafront Officer you will work within the dynamic seafront team, helping to ensure the 8 miles of Brighton & Hove Seafront is a safe, clean and controlled environment for residents, visitors and traders.

About the role

Seafront Officers supervise the seasonal Beach Lifeguard team and provide professional help, advice and assistance to seafront users. You will need a valid UK recognised beach lifeguard qualification and experience of beach lifeguarding.

The Seafront Office works alongside many other council departments, organisations and agencies. Strong communication skills are vital.

A flexible approach to working hours and weekend shifts is required.

We need a practical team player, who is also confident to use their own initiative when lone working.  

Patrolling the seafront on foot, manual handling tasks and responding to emergency situations means you need to have an excellent level of physical fitness, be a strong swimmer and enjoy working in all weather conditions.

Experience of dealing with challenging and stressful situations is important.

Key responsibilities; promotion of sea safety, respond to first aid incidents, commitment to health and safety, management of contractors, administrative tasks, enforcement of bye laws and daily seafront patrols.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
