Executive Support Officer

We have a great opportunity to join a fast-paced team working for a group of Directors in Children and Adults’ Services, as an Executive Support Officer. In this role, you will be responsible for providing slick and efficient support including research, project and meeting support, and correspondence writing and briefing senior officers.


  • Research, development and implementation of high-level projects e.g. support for inspection readiness, delivery boards.
  • Ensuring that procedures are up-to-date and meet national and local guidelines
  • Identifying practice opportunities and risks, and implementing robust responses, as well as supporting implementation of an effective framework for business planning across the directorate
  • Maintaining a report plan for the Directorate/Division and chasing reports / outcomes / actions where required
  • Supporting service reviews by ensuring use of the agreed methodology in line with best practice, supporting the review process, preparing reports and monitoring implementation
  • Supporting the Directorate’s web and social media presence, working closely with the Corporate Communications Team
  • Providing briefings for the Directorate Management Team
  • Providing responses to Councillors and members of the public enquiries as directed by DMT including complaints, SARs and FOIs
  • Supporting a Divisional / Directorate Management Meeting: such as setting agenda and calling for papers
  • Drafting presentations as required by DMT
  • Help maintain executive schedules and appointments 


To be successful in this role, you will have experience in executive business or high-level project support at Senior Officer or Director level which includes providing first class secretariat support to senior/directing boards or committees in a fast-paced environment, maintaining confidentiality. You can assimilate large amounts of information at pace with a consistently high degree of accuracy, including through minute taking.

Through your excellent organisational skills, you will have the ability to prioritise tasks and work to meet tight deadlines, under pressure with changing priorities. You have a proven track record of stakeholder relationship building and management with senior staff and with strong communication skills to support that. You can work successfully alone and as part of a team.
