Responsible to the foreman fitter for the maintenance and repair of the council’s vehicle fleet.
To carry out essential maintenance to ensure effectiveness of the fleet.
To carry out planned checks and maintenance of our fleet of HGVs, vans and other vehicles.
To respond to unplanned work and break downs, this may mean out of hours, during scheduled breaks, weekends.
Requisition of parts as necessary.
To carry out welding and fabricating duties.
To maintain and repair the vehicle’s cameras.
To fit and remove vehicle decals when required.
To prepare vehicles for MOT including deep cleansing.
To take vehicles for test and MOT.
To keep working area clean and tidy.
To execute workmanship to a high standard and ensure it is carried out in strict compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, and any other relevant legislation covering safety in the workplace for self and others.
Plan and organise the work, materials and equipment according to priorities, the size and complexity of the job, the need to minimise travel and other non-productive time, and the need to keep scheduled appointments.
Provide supervision and guidance to work experience students and apprentices as and when required.
To keep supervisory staff aware of progress and potential issues in a timely manner.
To carry out gritting, salt spreading and snow clearing, as necessary, during bad weather.
Ability to manage their own time.
Good communication skills.
Good customer service skills.
Ability to plan work schedule and materials needed for assigned work projects.
Ability to work with minimum supervision or as part of a team.
3 years minimum experience required
Experience of vehicle inspection, pre MOT, DoT regulations
City & Guilds Mechanic/Technician (or equivalent)
Experience of working in similar role
Keen to develop personal skills
Trouble shooting skills
Good team player
Must wear a uniform.

R.C.V. Experience & Hydraulics
A full and clean HGV driving licence
Experience of dealing with the public.
