About Us

The Highways, Transport and Planning (HTP) Directorate is part of the Place Services Department of West Sussex County Council. The work of the Directorate includes a wide range of statutory and other functions relating to highways, transport, travel, the countryside, planning, and development.

Working across the directorate this role will touch on all aspects of service delivery helping us to deliver a positive experience for users of our services making sure:

We have an open opportunity for a budding Apprentice to join our Team in a flexible role, where you will work alongside colleagues to provide a customer focused service to others.

This apprenticeship gives a comprehensive grounding leading to a future role as a Project Manager. The role will require the individual to participate in various areas of practical and theoretical training combined with Company specific training given in the workplace.

It is anticipated that the apprenticeship will be undertaken over a two-year period, however this will depend on your experience and skill levels.

During your training and work experience, you will learn to complete a range of tasks including undertaking and completing various elements of the Associate Project Manager Level 4 Apprenticeship; Functional Skills, and Employment Responsibilities & Rights.

The Apprenticeship will also involve attending college regularly; working with an assessor to develop a work-based portfolio; undertaking work-based assessments, completing all assignments/projects relating to the Apprenticeship framework and presenting evidence portfolios for assessment within specified timeframes.

Literacy and numeracy skills in order to understand varied written instructions describing tasks or take complex messages.

Ability to meet deadlines and use some initiative in order to complete varied tasks or activities.

Good communication and interpersonal skills in order to exchange varied information with a range of audiences.

  • Key skill 4

Ability to handle equipment with care and report any issues where appropriate.

  • Key skill 5

Ability to work as part of a team to provide a co-ordinated service to others.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • 5 GCSE passes at grade C (Grade 4)
  • A prospective apprentice will also need to show that they are currently working at or towards the minimum L2 skills for Maths and English. Where a learner has not already achieved GCSE grade 4 to 9 (A-C ) or equivalent Level 2 English and Maths Functional Skills, they must do so before taking the end-point assessment.
