We require support workers to join our team in providing care and support to the people who live here and for people who use our short breaks service.

About The Job

Salary: Grade 3 £18,562 to £18,933 pro rata (23.5 hours - £11,789 to £12,025 and 28.5 hours - £14,297 to 14,583)
Working Pattern: Part time - 23.5 hours and 28.5 hours
Contract Length: Permanent
Location: Sompting, Lancing, West Sussex

As a support worker you will support people with personal care, communication, presence in the community, attending health & social appointments & helping people to maintain practical skills that are relevant to their individual needs & choices, including all aspects of their daily routines.

You will need to be good at communicating & interacting with people. You will have the ability to build relationships with people & ensure that their views are heard & needs met.

The role can offer good flexibility of working shifts to help ensure you have a good work life balance. Your working hours would be planned on a 4-week rota & will include a variety if both early & late shifts as well as alternate weekends & some bank holidays.

All mandatory training is provided in a variety of areas such as health & safety, food hygiene, first aid, moving & handling, medication etc.

Experience and Skills

Key Skills

  1. A basic understanding of the needs of the people you will be supporting and their rights as an individual.
  2. You will understand individual situations and be able to identify basic practical solutions. Be kind, supportive, encouraging and non-judgemental whilst building on people's strengths that support people's goals. Sharing communication at the daily handover to ensure there is a continuity of care and to write daily records for the people you support.
  3. Able to communicate clearly with the people who use the service and participate in conversations with family members and paid/unpaid carers and professionals/ colleagues from time to time.
  4. The ability to adapt communication appropriately and use suitable tools where needed (e.g. basic Makaton), along with being aware of the sensitivities of language when working with a diverse range of people.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Adult Care Worker - Level 2 or equivalent is desirable. If you are new to care have experience in care and do not have this qualification, there is a requirement for you to begin within the first 6 months of starting in role.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills in order to record and document activities.
  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety practice, First Aid and Fire procedures, Moving and Handling of people is also desirable.
