Assistant Director - Planning and Improvement

Does your impressive track record in an income generation setting include analysing the performance and key trends of complex programmes, producing proposals for improvement and growth and project managing subsequent changes? Then join Shelter as Assistant Director Income Generation and you could soon be embarking on an exciting 1 year maternity cover contract where you'll lead our Planning & Improvement team through the next exciting phase of their development.

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve

Our Planning & Improvement team is the glue that binds together all income generation appeals, activities and products. We exist to enable and accelerate delivery of Income Generation's strategic plan. Currently a year into this ambitious plan, we need a senior leader to help us achieve our goal of raising more money from fewer products. Fundraising has changed, and we need to change too.

Why join Shelter?

Shelter promotes equality, diversity and inclusion in our workplace. We make employment decisions by matching business needs with skills and experience of candidates, irrespective of age, disability (including hidden disabilities),gender, gender identity or gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation. We also encourage applications from people, who have been homeless or have been at risk of homelessness. We are facing diverse problems, so need diverse people to tackle them.

We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

About the Role

We're looking for someone flexible, diplomatic and assertive, who's not afraid to challenge the status quo, to lead the team through an exciting phase of development that involves embedding changes to roles and responsibilities, ways of working and our processes. You'll also be accountable for establishing a framework that enables us to monitor, analyse and improve our Income Generation investment strategy to ensure we have a portfolio that balances in-year income with long-term sustainability. Critically evaluating our product portfolio, coming up with ideas for changes, repositioning our digital fundraising team as a product development and innovation team and working to gain buy-in and change the mindset across the whole fundraising department, these are just some of the challenges you'll face.

About you

Ideally from a fundraising/charity background, you have experience of training and facilitating people to plan together and communicate success, failures, contingency and change so that income generation plans are delivered and KPIs met.

You're also used to designing and deploying cross functional/organisational change programmes that deliver fully integrated, omni channel or channel agnostic approaches to planning and improvement. Managing, motivating and developing others comes naturally to you too. What's more, your project and change management skills have been honed at a senior leadership level and include the ability to build business and benefit cases and work collaboratively to improve and sustain change outcomes. Experience of working in a matrix management environment is important too, as are great negotiation skills and a flair for identifying, managing and mitigating risk and ensuring compliance is promoted and considered at all stages of planning and delivery.

Safeguarding is everyone's business. Shelter is committed to protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of those we support, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. All our staff will be expected to observe professional standards of behaviour and conduct their work in line with our Safeguarding Policies.

Shelter does not accept unsolicited CVs from external recruitment agencies nor accept the fees associated with them.
