An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Democratic Services & Elections Service, which forms part of the Deputy Chief Executive Directorate within Buckinghamshire Council.

The role will support the facilitation and delivery of the Council's democratic processes, and is within the Committee and Governance Services Team.

About us

Following a detailed Service review, a new Structure for Democratic Services & Elections has recently been implemented and this role is a new one created as a result of the new structure.

The role of Senior Committee & Governance Service Officers will provide a professional and vital role in the successful delivery of the Council's democratic processes, including attending meetings, producing agenda, minutes, decision sheets, briefing notes, and reports. It will provide advice to Officers and Members on the decision-making processes within the Council, including executive and non-executive processes, and Officer Decisions. In addition, the role will support the delivery of a co-ordinated governance training and awareness programme, and will advise Members and Officers on procedural matters within the Council's Constitution and standing orders, including dealing with complex and politically-sensitive issues in confidential manner. Support and assistance to the other teams within Democratic Services will also be a key aspect.

Currently there are 194 Members on the Council, with the first Buckinghamshire Council elections scheduled to take place on 6 May 2021 and the post will have a key role to play at the heart of the democratic processes for the Council.

About you

You should have previous experience of working within democratic services and a political environment in local government, and understand the relationship between elected Members and officers. You will also have experience of working with Elected Members on politically sensitive information and be comfortable with attending meetings with Members and senior Officers. You should also be able to demonstrate experience of using the mod gov software, and be able to produce professional and accurate minutes of Committee meetings, working using your own initiative.

You will have excellent written and oral communication skills and well-developed IT skills are essential. You will be able to work flexibly to respond to Service demand and should also have had experience in the delivery of virtual, remote meetings with Elected Members.
