Job Title: Welfare Benefits Assistant
Location: Farnham House, Stevenage (including home working)
Salary Range: £19,698 pa progressing to £20,903 pa pro rata for part time hours
Hours: 18.5 per week
Contract: 1 Year Fixed Term/Secondment
until 31/03/2022 (may be extended)

As a Welfare Benefits Assistant, you will primarily be providing business and administrative support in the Money Advice Unit, which helps individuals and families to make welfare benefit claims. In particular, you would provide support to advisers working on a wide range of projects involving carers, people with disability, parents of disabled children etc.

Your role will be to provide professional support, dealing tactfully with confidential and sensitive matters, answering telephone calls and providing information as a first point of contact. This will also involve undertaking a range of duties such as note and minute taking, filing, scanning and photocopying and dealing with general matters such as correspondence, emails and other communications.

Although there are no specific qualifications required for this role previous experience in service delivery or a business-related qualification or previous benefits knowledge would be beneficial.  The role requires you to demonstrate a good command of English and to be able to communicate effectively. As a Unit, we actively promote diversity and inclusion in both our service and our staffing, and you will be expected to match our commitment in those areas. You will be:

  • Self-motivated, professional and approachable providing excellent team support and best practice at all times
  • Willing to undertake a variety of administrative tasks, operating within departmental policies and procedures
  • A competent administrator with experience of using Microsoft Office, a good typist confident in the use of Excel.  You will be the first point of contact for our clients and for staff from a wide range of partner organisations Excellent customer care skills are essential.

We are looking for someone, who can take pride in playing their part in a team supporting people to be active citizens and members of their communities.  Hertfordshire operate a SMART working policy which will allow the Welfare Benefits Assistant to work from home or a touchdown on occasion with management agreement. However, your main office base will be Farnham House in Stevenage.
