Level 4 Policy Officer Apprenticeship - 24 month contract

Euston Team purpose:

There are a number of high profile projects being delivered around Euston that will transform the area in the years to come. Within Camden Council, the Euston team has the overarching responsibility of ensuring that these schemes create a new piece of city that is planned with the community at its heart.

The team has responsibility for the development of planning policy for the Euston area, managing the pre-application and application process for the over site development above and around Euston Station and the HS2 station, shaping emerging designs for Network Rail and Crossrail 2 stations at Euston, considering wider opportunities around Euston Station and delivering the objectives of the Euston Area Plan.

Role purpose:
As a Policy Officer apprentice within the Euston team you will support in the development of appropriate planning/design frameworks to guide the delivery of the Euston Area Plan objectives working alongside other members of the Euston team. You will have the opportunity to work both individually and as part of a team and to deliver quality advice to a range of stakeholders; meeting deadlines in a variety of project and policy areas. As part of the Euston Team you will have the opportunity of working with members of different services across the Council and with external stakeholders involved in the delivery of development across Euston. You will work towards achieving a Level 4 Policy Officer Apprenticeship qualification.

The responsibilities will change as you progress through the apprenticeship. You will take on more of the responsibilities listed in the ‘Policy Officer Specific Duties’ section as you gain experience and knowledge.

Objectives of the role
Providing general policy support across the team including working with a range of stakeholders to contribute to the development and introduction of new policies.
Gathering information, including engaging with experts, and summarising it for technical and non-technical audiences.
Developing good working relationships with stakeholders to support policy development.
 Supporting the team by providing written policy and advice to briefings and correspondence.

General duties

To learn all aspects of policy development and have full commitment to obtaining the Apprenticeship qualification.
To provide an administrative function, which will typically involve note taking and sharing, booking meeting rooms and organising meetings.
To draft correspondence and respond to requests for information from internal and external stakeholders.
To participate actively in discussions on issues that involve the team or the wider Council, helping to provide insights into opportunities and solutions.
To gain knowledge and understanding of Camden Council policies and procedures and the practical application of the Camden Ways of Working to best serve citizens and businesses.

Role specific duties

The role requires the candidate to have excellent grammar and spelling and to be able to write clearly and concisely.
The role requires the candidate to understand and develop policies in line with Camden 2025:

By the end of the apprenticeship, you should expect to be managing smaller defined projects and contributing to the management of larger projects, subject to capacity.

Essential criteria


Level 2 or GCSE grades A-C English and maths

A Level 3 qualification(s), including at least one of the below:

-       2 x A-levels at grade D and above; or

-       BTEC Extended Diploma at grade PPP and above; or

-       Level 3 apprenticeship; or
Equivalent level 3 qualifications of at least 48 UCAS points.


    Interest in Policy development with emphasis on planning and transport
    Problem-solving skills
