About the role:

We are looking for someone who can work in the challenging and dynamic environment of Admissions, transport and school place planning.

In this role, you'll assist with the day to day work of the section which deals with the arrangements for the admission of children into mainstream primary and secondary schools, and the movement of children between primary and secondary schools, the administration work relating to school appeals and the arrangements for the issue of scholars free travel passes and permits. You will work autonomously, applying knowledge and understanding in order to determine an appropriate course of action that produces a consistent and accurate result. You'll undertake all admissions team processes including more detailed and/or sensitive reports and correspondence, providing reports and statements as requested by managers with due regard to confidentiality and safeguarding. You'll collect, input, extract and manipulate information relating to admissions, transport or other service requirement or eligibility criteria.

You'll provide advice and support to colleagues, advice and guidance to customers including members of the public, on services, policies and processes including non-routine enquiries to ensure that correct procedures are being applied, support admissions team colleagues including day to day supervision and line management responsibilities for sub-ordinates. By applying your knowledge and understanding of the specialist area, you will determine an appropriate course of action that produces a consistent and accurate result, resolving issues arising from your own work and that of others on the team, escalating complex problems to a line manager.

You'll develop constructive working relationships with colleagues and customers, providing and promoting a customer focussed service in conjunction with other Council service providers. You'll ensure that admissions processes and document management are timely, accurate and in compliance with Council policy and procedures and all legislative requirements.

This post offers a wide variety of duties relating to the administration of school admissions and home to school transport. The successful candidate will require good general administrative and organisational skills,

You'll need to have experience working with computer based information systems and software. Good communication and interpersonal skills, numeracy skills and the ability to construct and manipulate spreadsheets are essential.

Your experience should include effective customer service and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. A working knowledge of the Capita ONE system is desirable.

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent and an IT/Maths or Statistics qualification are desirable. Ideally the candidate would have good experience of education based data and information administration, experience of planning and managing project work and knowledge of schools admissions and home to school transport legislation and policies, as well as experience of line management responsibility and a knowledge of the ways in which information can be held manually and as part of a computer system.

You will need to be able to work to strict deadlines and have a flexible approach to work priorities. The position will involve liaison with other Departments, schools, external agencies and other officers involved with children and young people and their families.

Above all you will be looking to improve the way we engage with our employees/residents/customers to ensure they are at the heart of everything we do.

Please note that this is a jobshare. The post-holder will ordinarily be expected to work the second half of the week, e.g. Wednesday afternoon, all day Thursday and all day Friday.

The post is currently remote working, with bookable desk space at Cheshire Lines Building, Birkenhead when essential.
