Newham is an ambitious and vibrant borough, proud to be home to one of the youngest and most diverse cultures in the country, with 72% of the population from BAME communities, contributing to 220 languages being spoken in the area. We have excellent transport links to the rest of London and South-East England, including Kent, Essex, Surrey, and Middlesex. Newham is an exciting and ambitious borough that is committed to putting people at the heart of everything we do.
The Borough is changing rapidly, benefiting from significant investment, creating new jobs, homes, and opportunities for all. Over the next decade we expect to see an additional 2,500 jobs created, injecting £1.5 billion into the local economy.
We are also facing a time of unprecedented challenge, and are quickly and continuously responding to the live and dynamic challenges our residents, communities and businesses face in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our response and aspirations for Newham, in the face of the challenges, remains undiminished.
Our vision is for Newham to be a place where our residents are able to live healthy, happy and well lives. We are the first borough to put the health, happiness and wellbeing of our residents as our primary measures of success, as part of our innovative and critically important Towards a Better Newham: Our Recovery and Reorientation Strategy.
You will be joining Newham at a time of significant change, as we continue to review, refine and redesign our operating model, how we work, and how we work collaboratively with our residents, communities, partners and businesses to transform our organisation.
