About the role
This new and evolving role is co-located with the Retained Client Function Team in Plymouth City Council and involves working closely with their social work team, as well as the Shelter Plymouth Team. Your challenge? To deliver a professional, pragmatic and outcome focused advice and support service to clients, with a focus on prevention, empowerment, education and intervention. Day-to-day, you’ll carry out casework aimed at preventing crises and situational breakdowns, in order to prevent homelessness. Conducting client meetings and assessments in a trauma informed way will be key, as will agreeing clients’ needs and identifying desired outcomes/actions. We’ll also rely on you to make relevant referrals where appropriate, help clients to attend appointments to ensure get the support they need and empower them to make informed choices, whilst ensuring they’re aware of their rights.
To succeed, you’ll need recent relevant experience and the communication and negotiation skills it takes to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, both statutory and non-statutory. A clear understanding of safeguarding frameworks is essential too, as is the ability to listen to clients’ needs and identify desired outcomes/actions in a person centred and strength based way. Proactive, creative and customer-focused, you’re committed to achieving results, respond positively and quickly to change and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas where appropriate. Proficiency using Microsoft Office application is also required.
