Woodingdean Primary School have an exciting opportunity for a Level 4 School Business Professional apprentice. We are a 2 form entry on the outskirts of Brighton, providing high quality education for 4-11 year olds. You would be joining a small experienced admin team who support the School Management Team, school staff, children and parents.

The School Business Professional at level 4 is run by the Greater Brighton Metropolitan College who is responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. The course has core modules to complete and a number of optional units. Your work experience will be linked to the modules and units in your course. You will receive additional support from a nominated mentor, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship.

About the role

Apprentices will gain skills and knowledge in:

  • Drafting and monitoring the school budget. This will include providing information to the Senior Management team, Governors and local authority.
  • Understanding the educational funding streams, and compliance in spending and reporting of such streams.
  • Maintaining financial records at the necessary standards for external audits.
  • Taking responsibility for key budgets within the school.
  • Managing and organising school trips, including procurement, Risk Assessment and income generating.
  • Following procurement process to ensure best value for money.
  • Managing the school site including following good Health & Safety procedures, contract management and embedding rolling replacement schedules.
  • Managing office and other support staff. This will include necessary record keeping for recruitment and contract changes.
  • Understanding the impact of educational bodies and policies at an operational level (DfE, Ofsted etc)
  • Developing and maintaining effective school admin processes, including HR and pupil records to meet GDPR and DfE census standards.
  • Understanding the role of the Governing Body and providing supporting documentation for their meetings when required.
  • Identifying small scale income generation opportunities.
  • Promoting the school’s identity in the local and wider community.
  • Effective communication across a wide range of stakeholders, using a variety of communication methods and technologies.
  • Ensuring compliance with and implementation of Safeguarding and Health & Safety policies so all stakeholders work and learn in a safe and healthy environment.

Apprentices without certificate evidence of level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completing training and you may be required to take an English and Maths assessment prior to a formal offer being made.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
