As a Planning Officer you will take ownership of the full application process from pre application discussions, through the application process, conditions discharge and defending the Council at appeals in the event of refusals.  You will manage a varied caseload of housing, commercial and other types of interesting applications and be a motivated individual who has experience of dealing with planning applications, has a willingness to learn and is adaptable to change.

You will be working with a friendly, supportive and dedicated team which is committed to continual professional development.  We will identify and support training and career development opportunities to help you reach you career goals and full potential.

Please contact Guy Everest, Applications Team Leader, on 01403 215633, or Adrian Smith, Major Applications Team Leader, on 01403 215460 with any questions relating to the post.

Horsham District Council encourages and supports their employees to have a healthy work life balance by supporting their professional development as well as offering 27 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays (pro-rata), a generous benefits package and an online platform offering discounts from online retailers. Staff are eligible to join a contributory pension scheme where the Council contributes 20% of pensionable salary. The Council also provides reimbursement for professional subscriptions and access to a car lease scheme.

If you would like to apply for the role, we highly recommend you show clearly within the ‘Experience Section’ of the application form how you meet the essential criteria detailed within the Role Profile when applying. If you do not make this clear, it is unlikely you will be shortlisted for interview.
