Adur and Worthing Councils are innovative and forward thinking organisations providing a broad range of services to our communities including housing, benefits, planning, wellbeing, parks, waste and environmental health. The nature of our work means that we collect and process a lot of data, including sensitive data. It is critical that our approach is robust, compliant and meets the highest standards of data protection. As local councils we also have a duty to be transparent and share information with residents and stakeholders to enable effective community engagement. Our approach to information governance is therefore critical to the quality of the services we provide and public trust and confidence in our work.
We are now seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to lead our information governance function and team.
You will be a regulatory professional with specialist data protection and freedom of information qualifications and demonstrable experience. We are looking for someone who has a passion and drive for information governance and will play a lead role in the Council's compliance arrangements, including dealing with personal data breaches, monitoring the Council’s data protection documentation and managing a compliance framework for Requests for Information.
Excellent information legislation practitioner capabilities will be key attributes of your skills competency base, ensuring you embed and champion good information handling practices.
You will need great people skills to drive proactive culture towards data management and security across a large diverse organisation. Excellent communication skills are essential as the post holder will provide advice, support and training to all staff. You should also have a high level of IT literacy and the confidence to work effectively across the organisation together with excellent time management skills in order to meet deadlines and targets.
In return, you will be offered a competitive salary, local government pension and a good leave entitlement.
Staff are our most important asset and we therefore have a benefit package which reflects our continuing commitment to our employees. This includes:
- Generous leave entitlement; a minimum of 25 days + Bank Holidays
- Local Government Pension
- Training & development
- Occupational Health
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
- Flexible working options
Apart from being a great organisation to work for, our location is also superb, with a glorious coastline to the south and the Downs to the north.
We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed on merit. Staff work in a supportive and safe environment, recognising their responsibility to value and respect each other’s contributions. Standards of conduct must be of the highest level to ensure that no-one is harassed, bullied or victimised. We offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, staff engagement forums and are keen to hear from applicants from a variety of different backgrounds.
