Principal Officer - EMPOWER U Team (Exploitation and Missing Hub)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principle Officer in the developing newly formed EMPOWER U Team (Exploitation and Missing Hub) Citywide Service. The successful Principle Officer will need to be social work qualified, an innovative individual; to work within the EMPOWER U hub in the areas of child exploitation, missing and wider contextual risks. The successful applicant will take an independent and objective approach working in an open and transparent way, ability to challenge all partner agencies and advocate on behalf of children, parents and carers.

In addition, the successful applicant will need to have knowledge of Child Protection Procedures and be expected to ensure that high quality services are being delivered to children, providing constructive challenge where needed.

Working in partnership with a team of specialist workers and partners; the successful candidate    will chair some of the most complex strategy discussions and disruption planning meetings and reviews. In addition, they will work in partnership with the area teams, intelligence analyst and assist with any mapping exercises in relation to groups of children for whom there are concerns around criminal and /or sexual exploitation and missing with a good understanding of contextual safeguarding.

This is a developing hub and your role will also include:

  • Supporting with the development of practice guidance and awareness raising in line with the contextual safeguarding agenda with a focus on supporting children and their families who are at risk of harm beyond their families.
  • Chairing complex strategy discussions and complex disruption planning meetings
  • Create resources and approaches for assessing, intervening and planning.
  • Promote and manage culture change looking at alternative case management systems.
  • Develop a positive working culture.
  • Lead by example, by maintaining the highest standards of practice and empowering others to do the same.
  • Maybe required to work flexible hours and extended hours which may include weekends. 

In addition, you will need to possess excellent chairing, analytical, communication and partnership working skills. The successful applicant will be able to ensure effective decisions are made for some of our most vulnerable children who go missing and are at risk of/ are being exploited. The successful applicant will need to work closely with social care services, the police, education, health, voluntary sector, Integrated gang’s team, youth offending services.
