Democratic Support Officer

An exciting opportunity to gain new skills, work directly with Elected Members and to work in an area of the Council where vacancies rarely occur is currently available at Lancaster City Council.  Democratic Services are currently looking for someone to fill the role of Democratic Support Officer. The duties of this role include: arranging meetings, clerking meetings (preparing agendas and taking minutes), supporting Councillors generally and helping out with the elections team if there are electoral events.

The hours of work are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. However, this post will include some evening work and very occasional  weekend work. The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm. This post is based at Lancaster Town Hall, however applicants must be able to attend both daytime and evening meetings at other locations.

This post is politically restricted.

To find out more about the team and what the job entails, please contact Liz Bateson or Stephen Metcalfe, Principal Democratic Support Officers on 01524 582047/01524 582073 for a confidential informal discussion.

Last year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.

We are a Forces Friendly employer, and an Armed Forces Covenant committed organisation. We welcome applications from defence reserves and other members of our armed forces community.

Excellent benefits include: A Local Government Pension Scheme (the Council makes a 15.5% contribution). Discounted gym membership and discount on days out, activities and retail.
