Contextual Safeguarding Social Worker

Grade PO2 – PO6

In this role, you will support Wirral Children's Services in the development of our contextual safeguarding framework and the linked Wirral Safer Adolescence Strategy.

The work of the complex and contextual safeguarding practitioner is key to supporting professionals in working differently as a child level; and creating and testing new means of approaching safeguarding issues that involve peer groups, locations and themes across Wirral. The role will work alongside lead professionals to ensure child level assessment, intervention activity and support plans are developed that include the recognition and response to contextual harm themes. They work to coordinate activity across lead professionals and provide a valuable interface between children services and the wider cohort of practitioners and agencies who can support child level and group or location based plans to reduce the risk of harm to vulnerable young people. .

The Complex and contextual safeguarding team also provide support to the Complex Abuse Protocol. This relates to organised or multiple abuse events. Such operations require some initial scoping , the coordination across multiple professionals, research and mapping to identify linked individuals of risk or other children or young people who may be vulnerable in the context of the abuse being investigated.

You will work closely within contextual safeguarding service area that includes missing and Child Exploitation and Youth Justice.

You will support the development and delivery of the Wirral Safer Adolescence Strategy which will require the creation and testing of new practice tools and resources as our contextual safeguarding framework further develops and embeds.

It would be beneficial for the applicant to have an interest in developing project management skills.

We are looking for someone who can undertake independent research relevant to the subject area support the testing of new ways of working and generate evaluation and feedback.

You'll need to be qualified in Social Work and have experience working within children's services.

Your experience should include, case holding, working with complex cases specifically those involving risk outside the home/extra familial harm. The successful applicant will work closely with and coordinate across case holding professionals to coach and mentor contextual approaches to safeguarding.

You will need a track record of excellent communication skills, particularly dealing with multiagency, partnerships and coordination of and chairing meetings.
