Strategic Lead, Leisure & Community Services

Strategic Lead, Leisure & Community Services

Full-time (36 hours flexible)

We are looking for a Strategic Lead for Leisure & Community Services. This is a new post that has been created to lead the Council’s efforts in developing the local leisure, arts and culture offer for residents, as well as community engagement, particularly as we embark on our plans to support local communities to recover from Covid-19.

You’ll be responsible for overseeing the contract management of leisure related commissioned services. This includes the operator contract for the Council’s two leisure centres, which is currently being retendered in advance of the Council’s new flagship leisure centre opening in Staines-upon-Thames in 2023 (subject to planning permission). This is a high value contract, so you’ll be expected to constructively challenge the contractor to deliver high quality services for residents.

You’ll work closely with the Strategic Leads for Independent Living and Housing to ensure that services, strategies and policies dovetail across the Community Wellbeing Group.

We are looking for a problem solver who is politically aware and has a positive track record and significant experience in strategy and policy preparation as a result of their experience and broad understanding of leisure, culture and community services delivery.

Your resilience, determination and self-motivation are what will drive your work in service improvement and business development.

You will be comfortable working with numbers and data in spreadsheets and databases and be able to translate the same into plain English for a variety of audiences. You will be able to use this data to drive business cases and funding bids, which will see new services commissioned in line with the Council’s strategic aim. To do this effectively, you will need excellent ICT skills.

You will lead a small but effective team which you will be expected to coach and support.

This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark in Spelthorne.

Please note that this role is currently home based. This is kept under constant review. This post will also be subject to Basic DBS check.

Closing date: Sunday 26 April 2021 (11.55pm)

Interview date: Thursday 6 May 2021 via Microsoft Teams
