Planning Support Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Officer to join the Planning Support Team within the Development Management service. The Planning Support Team handles the administrative and technical processes involved in the submission, registration, validation, notification and determination of the 2,500 planning and related applications received each year as well as various tasks associated with planning appeals.

The post would be based on an initial ‘work from home’ basis with some ‘start-up’ need to attend the refurbished Town Hall offices in Reigate for essential training and support only: social distancing measures would be in place. You would be part of a busy and proactive team which is one of a few in the country to operate fully paperless working. Principally, you will be dealing with the initial validation and registration of some of the 2,500 planning and related applications received each year as well as providing administrative support to both the Planning Support Team Leader and Planning Officers throughout the application process, including preparations for Planning Committee meetings.

The role requires extensive use of the Council’s document management and database systems so strong IT literacy is essential although training and support will be given.

About the Person:

  • You will have strong IT literacy skills including using databases, Outlook, Word and Excel
  • You have excellent attention to detail
  • You will have strong organisational skills
  • Great customer care and interpersonal skills
  • You will be flexible and adaptable
  • You will have experience of being a supportive team player

Behaviours:

  • You will be highly motivated and capable.
  • Are capable of working well on your own and as be a supportive member of a team.
  • Adaptable to the task in hand and willing to learn.
  • You are confident to make process improvement suggestions where necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally educated to A-level standard
