We are looking for a Casual Customer Service Assistant at Newbury Library. You will be asked to work only when we need to cover the absence of our permanent staff, and sometimes this will be at short notice. There might be periods when you are needed to work frequently and then quiet periods at other times. You are under no obligation to accept any work from us when offered.
You will be the first point of contact in the provision and promotion of the library service to a wide range of customers of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, in person, by telephone or email. Your main duties will involve assisting library users to make the best use of the facilities at the library. You will be responsible for issuing and returning library stock using our library management system and assisting customers to use self-service terminals. You will also be required to answer a wide range of enquiries about our library book stock and other resources, and to enable customers to use our ICT facilities; and other library equipment e.g. photocopier/printer/scanner.
After your initial training at Newbury Library there may also be opportunities for you to work at other libraries in West Berkshire.
